Solar Quest - Core

Solar Quest (a.k.a George Saunders) - one of the pioneers in the U.K electronic dance music scene (much because of the legendary track Acid Air Raid), is back with a beautiful chill-album containing 24 tracks in all colours and forms (on a 2xcd). It could go on and on telling you how good it is, but it´s better that you listen yourselves and form your on relationship to this great piece of art. Six years since the last release SolaLuna this album Core is one that I really have been looking forward to. I am enjoying it a lot.

Kurbeats - Phony Pony

This is by far my favourite-track on the album Folktronica released last year. It´s very mellow, relaxed and moody, well, at least at the start. It also has a small repetitive melody that adds that extra touch to the whole musical recipe. Two thumbs up

Kurbeats are Mathias Erikson and Andreas Lingbrad both from Gothenburg, Sweden. They first met at some rave parties in the end of the 90´s. Their musical vision, already from the start was to mix electronic music and Scandinavian folk music. They started out under the name Yggdrasil and released an album called Prose Edda. Mathias also makes music under the name M.E.E.O releasing an album on Demon Teain 2008, whilst Andreas has two solo projects: Pallida - making an hybrid of trance & techno, and Paul Harbour - focusing on a fusion of breakbeats, jazz and chillout.

Bluetech - Dreaming Into Being

I really like this dreamy, floating ambient album by Bluetech. It is so soothing and relaxing and it invites the listener to a very nice spacy ambience and really affects the state of mind. This is the kind of music that makes me remember why I love music and how powerful it can be. It reminds me a little bit of the releases Bluetech had under his real name Evan Bartholomew on Somnia Records. Just listen and relax!

"´Dreaming Into Being' is an exploration of expanded states of being. There is another world—both contained within our own and simultaneously surrounding us, like the germinating seed within a shell and the rarified atmosphere at higher altitudes. It is a place where the foundational structures of myth take shape, where the lovers, the dearly departed, the dream keepers, the sages and guides all reside, patiently waiting for us to discover them and share breath again."

Va - Hidden Codes

I´m apparently very late discovering this compilation since it was released already in July 2013. This work of art is filled with scratchy, twisted psychedelic sounds leaning towards the dark/forest genres. It was compiled by Tkalii and released on Digital Yonkis records, and my favourite tracks are the ones by Witch Freak, Smoke Ship, Yara and the below track - a LAB rmx of Malice in Wonderland.

Digital Yonkis Records was founded by the combined efforts of musicians Luciano Cisternas (MOAIACT), Tomi (ZLOTT) & Felipe Undurraga (GESH) with the support from Gabriel Gomez (Gao), the label is an artists and friendship community, in which new and old talents are gathered with the aim to express, share and create a unique music style.

Va - Nova Natura 4

The first part of this series released way back in 2005, was my first contact with many of the artists that has made beautiful contributions to the melodic chill scene, artists such as Zero Cult, Sideliner, D.Batistatos and Cydelix. And for a few years I bought a lot of the stuff being released, enjoying the signature sound of Cosmicleaf a lot. The last physical cd was released in around 2009, and I thought the label had disappeared. Not until last year I realised it just gone digital. Anyway this fourth instalment of Nova Natura continues in the same vibe as the previous releases and personally I think it reaches the same quality. You should definitely check it out if you like dreamy, spacey, floating melodic chill and downbeat. Favourite tracks so far are by Zen Garden, Sideliner and J.P. Illusion.

Vertical - Vertical EP

Vertical is Joonas Lehtinen from Tampere, Finland. He releases his music on the Danish psy label Parvati Records. This track is part of the Vertical EP just recently coming out, and it is high-quality rolling forest that really hits that sweet spot. The best part is that the whole EP is available for free through the Parvati website (if you are a registered user), and trough Vertical´s personal Soundcloud page.

Vertical has always been into electronic music and around 1997 he started to experiment with compositions of his own. Even though his first contact with Goa trance was in 1996, it wasn´t until 2001 through various music that he got interested in to the world of psytrance. Attending his first psyparty in 2002 was a defining point for his relationship to the scene and music. He gets his inspiration from parties and everyday life, nature, space and the music is a mixture of funny and serious, mind and dancefloor friendly psytrance.

Data Rebel - Illusions Of Reality

I really really love this album. The music is filled with so much emotion, and I love how it doesn´t scream for attention, it is just there as a companion through the day. It is gentle, like a soft stroke on your senses. It also inspires me to be creative, to sit down in my on space and just make music forever. And I am forever grateful to musicians like Danny Howe sharing their gift with the rest of us.
Thank you.

Anders Tone - Blue Galactic Eagle

A very nice new mix by talented Anders playing for Blue Hours Sounds. It´s a perfect journey for early hours, but due to Anders taking a somewhat different direction compared to his earlier mixes, now leaning towards a somewhat harder, crunchier style, I would love to hear this late evening/midnight as well. Give it a listen and make your opinion.

Hoodwink - EXP

Wildthing Records has just released a new compilation entitled Nocturnal Network. It features high-quality music by artists part of the roster, such as E.V.P, Neutral Motion, Archaic and Southwild. If you listened to this label before you know what to expect; fast intense, rhythmic, weird, twisted psytrance. It is a very good release, and this label is quickly becoming one of my absolute favourites. Also on the compilation is the following track by Hoodwink.

Hoodwink is Kelton Jones from Manchester, the UK and he has been a producer of psy-trance  for a number of years now. His style strives to cover the domain of night whilst still maintaining a positive feeling, thus pulling people towards the speakers, but still retaining an edgy attitude. At the same time keeping a groovy aspect makes his muscic great for the daytime too. He has released 2 Albums with the Label, ”Audio Illusion” and “Sound Mirror”, and he is playing internationally on a regular basis.

Spiky @ Tangra Festival, Bulgaria 2013

A very nice chill-mix put together by Spiky a k a Spiros Tseronis from Mannheim, Germany. It is a live-recording from his set at beautiful Tangra Festival taking place in Bulgaria around midsummer 2013.

Spiky is a  musician, producer and Psybient DJ part of Ajnavision Records who, and since his very young age has been always enchanted by music. As a child he learned to play the accordion, which later changed to piano and synthesizers. In the 90´s he organized parties in his homecity Mannheim and Athens with his friends. Spikys first Liveact was in 1998, only with a Quasimidi Raven synthesizer. In 2000-2004 he worked on a tv broadcast company as an audio-technician and learned all the hidden tricks with the use of machinery and equipment for the recording, mixing and reproduction of sounds including electronics, acoustics, psychoacoustics, and music. With all this input Spiky built his own homestudio. The past years Spiky travelled all over the world on all kind of indoor clubs and underground outdoor gatherings and festivals, inspired by different styles of electronic music! After discovering computer based music production and trying himself in different compositions from beatless ambient music to dirty ass-kicking techno, he began writing tech & house tunes as Spiky and produced 2009 on Diaphan label his first track called “Forest Trees”.

Delirium Of Disorder - Fresh Soil

This new deep twisted psychedelic track appears on the Revolve Magazine Summer 2013 compilation. This is one of those tracks that just goes on and on with no unnecessary breaks, very intense with patterns that won´t leave you alone. It is not super-hard but very trancy, and with a certain rhythmic sound that makes it stick out. Filled with quirks and wobbly sounds that makes it highly enjoyable, it also moves somewhere; there is enough different parts to keep the listener entertained.

Delirium of Disorder is Alex Warrick, originally from San Diego, US, but having lived in London for the last fifteen years, and the last year in Turkey. He started DJing under the name DeepBrianFromBosis in 2005, at the same time trying to learn analogue hardware, and later music-making on a computer, in 2008 building towards a live set. Alex currently creates forest and dark tracks between 148 - 180 bpm, very atmospheric, dark and danceable. Upcoming releases is on Purple Hexagon Records, and also a track with Arjuna soon to be released.

Mr Peculiar - Ritual

I´ve been a big fan of Mr Peculiar (Dustin Bint) since his psy-trance album Mind - Dala was released in 2005, (although I found his last cd-release on Hadra somewhat cheezy). His latest three releases are only available for download through his bandcamp. This album, entitled Ritual was released in June 2013, and is the first full-length chill album from this Australian musician. We are treated with 9 songs following the same formula - a dubby electronic vibe (sometimes bordering to lounge), nice melodies, quite a lot of singing (in what appears to be languages from the middle-eastern / asian part of the world) - but also a lot of atmosphere with floating pads and nice effectual sound-creations. Second song Sunrize quickly became on my favourites, with not too heavy dubby beats, nice pads, a floating flute and some beautiful vocals; also you are not too far from some quirky psychedelic sounds and melodies.

Song no.4 Moonbeams is a more groovy, loungy number - also with nice vocals and a very nice melodic part; I especially like the vocals in the end, intensifying and rooting the song. Next song Buddha Bounce starts out with a heavy dubby feel, a lot of rhythmic parts and even some nice acoustic elements. Closer to the end comes a part with a nice sitar-like instrument, and adding some more rhytms, closing it up with some vocals and a proper reggae vibe - electronic style. Listening to song no.8 Around the World, you can´t help but be reminded about a lot of what Shpongle does, it obviously has a smell of the work of Posford and Ram, build-up, vocal parts and also the increased tempo towards the end turning it into dance-explosion. Mr Peculiar finishes off this enjoyable ride with Wormholes, ending on a brighter, lighter side of chill, letting the listener floating towards the centre. All in all a very nice album, following a red thread never confusing the listener; and for 5 Euro it is a definite value for your money. Cheers, Dustin.
