Siam - Start to Focus

If you like melodic psytrance leaning a bit towards a more oldschool goa sound you should definitely listen to this song made by John P, in Athens Greece. It will put a smile on your face and make you long for a boogie. While you´re at it check out his song Transparent feelings, also on his soundcloud! Have fun :)

Dust - Do Unhealthy Silly Things

Unfortunately, very little psytrance has been released so far this year. And from that pile, not many songs have stood out... This is one of the few, and I would without a doubt have it played on a dancefloor. It will probably be featured on my next mix soon recorded. For me it is a perfect night-timer, although it is more psychedelic than dark. I like the beat, the feel and the crazy sounds that are in synchro and communicating with each other. It has a nice flow, and there are no boring parts, lots of shit happening all the time, and all parts fits nicely together!  Take it away, mr Dust.

Dust is Andrea Lunghi from Florence, Italy. He has just released his debut-album entitled I Don´t Like Psychedelics on Looney Moon Records, where the above song is featured as well. He sees himself as having a particularly sarcastic attitude towards life art and relationships, in impeccable Florentine style a caricature of Florence's (Italy) perfect citizen. This combined with a very productive vibe has led him to compose music for six different projects in the past few years. Not forgetting countless collaborations with names like Comadust, Assault Junkies, Mindshuffle, Dust in Face, Foam and Molest.

Dj Basilisk - Circadian Rhytms

"4 decks, 27 songs, 1½ hours, 120 beats per minute, and 13 years of music history"

Created by Dj Basilisk, founder of the Ektoplazm netlabel group, this mix contains mid-tempo Goa trance blended with a wide variety of related styles from dub techno to progressive house. It presents artists such as Banco de Gaia, Cydonia, Total Eclipse, Man with no Name, Doof and many other pioneers of Goatrance. For us old Goaheads it´s truly a trip down memory-lane (and such a beautiful one); for people who didn´t listen to this particular style of music in the 90´s this is an excellent opportunity to be introduced to this magical style of music. This mix is just pure excellence. Go download it NOW. Or so I will hunt you down and kick your ass ;)

Basilisk has been Djing for over a decade, and apart from that, he also manages three record labels (the eponymous Ektoplazm as well as Drumlore and Omnitropic).  Basilisk spins a variety of styles covering all points of the psychedelic trance spectrum. Every performance is entirely improvised and custom-crafted to fit with the theme of the event and the flow of the night. He is skilled in both vinyl and CD mixing, but now prefers using a laptop and MIDI controller to maximize the creative potential of his sets with harmonic mixing and the use effects. He believes in the classic technoshamanistic concept of “the set as a journey,” and thus prefers to mix up the many styles of psytrance rather than stick to one. Depending on the time slot and nature of the event Basilisk sometimes plays darkpsy, forest music, sometimes full-on, but can also focus a whole set on techtrance or progressive. Old school mid-nineties Goa trance and classic psytrance sets are also available on special request :)

SISMIC

Sismic is Paolo Nofi, an Italian electronic music producer, born in July 1974. He is just about to finish his first album due out on Crop Circle records and released worldwide. His style is best described as a form of fullon psytrance.. But don´t worry, this is no cheezy shit with vocals and guitars, it is very deep and psychedelic but at the same time pumping, melodic and energetic. Just the way I like it!

Already at the age of 8, with the help of his 8 bit home computer, Paolo and his friends started experimenting with loops and samples, and after 4 years he met the midi machines. At the age of 12 he started to create his first patterns of Techno/Electronic music style with Synthezisers (Yamaha DX21 + drum machine /sequencer Roland TR-505 ). In the early 90's he started to buy and mixing House / Techno / Progressive / trance vinyl from around the world and play with Technics SL 1200 in some parties around Rome. After many years of  self-studies in electronic music, learning most of the popular software for professional productions, he founded with Dj Meko a goa-trance project called Gaiatech and he at the same time started his solo project called SISMIC. The style is oriented towards Full-on morning with some obscure presences and acid lines. Paolo has played at some international festivals in Europe, like Existence Festival (Spain), 070707 Antiworld Festival (south of London), Sonica Electronic Music Festival 2005, 2007, 2009 and his music has also crossed the ocean to Universo Parallelo festival (Brasil). Kadasarva - Steamagination

Kadasarva is Alex Volkov from Kiev, Ukraina. He has released an excellent album for free on Sun Station Records and available through Ektoplazm, and so you can download HERE. This album was made as a tribute to older psychedelic trance, back when it began to evolve from the classic Goa trance of the 1990s into the high-tech industrial/mechanical sound supported by labels such as Flying Rhino, Twisted, and Blue Room. His influences are artists such as The Cure, Front 242, Aphex Twin, Orbital, Hallucinogen, Koxbox, Shpongle, Korn, Tool, Tequilajazzz, X-dream, Queens of the stone age, U.N.K.L.E. To keep the music authentic to the sound of older goa, no standard presets were used while recording this album, and all sounds and sequences were created by Alex with analog synths and samplers, resulting in "full-power old school psytrance with the sheen of modern production technology".

As soon as the first song - World of Tomorrow - starts to sneak out from the speakers you can quickly hear that Alex has succeeded with what he set out to do with this album: to recreate the non-melodic era of goatrance but still with very high levels of creativity and production. The references and inspiration from the master mr S. Posford himself is obvious in many of the songs (especially when it comes to the basslines, rhytms and quirky sounds that are so in focus in his Hallucinogen - creations). However, this is nothing negative. And the first song is a real nasty stomper! 2nd song - Quaternion - is a bit more minimal and rough, but still with a nice feel and some weird elements. The next one - Cybermind - really embodies the musical heritage from oldschool goa; it´s very psychedelic, is has pumping rhytms, is 10 minutes long and has an interesting break in the middle complete with some nice break beat (now that is something that you don´t hear everyday). This song is also super-intense, crazy and will eventually tweak your brain :P The album continues in the same style, it is high-quality oldschool but with a harder, rougher edge, more experimental and wild, and less fluffy and melodic. I like it! Nr. 6 - Ginger - is also a real treat for your ears and for your mind taking a nice trip to outer space... And so what are you waiting for, fools! Go listen to it now. And see you on the other side!

Lost Theory festival

If you´re a lover of dark/forest and goatrance the Lost Theory festival is surely something you want to consider visiting this year. This festival is held between the 15th and 20th of august in Croatia, close to Deringaj, on the banks of the Otuča (Ooh-tooh-tsjààgh) river. With artists performing such as Furious, Ocelot, Farebi Jalebi, Yudhistira and oldschoolers Cosmosis, Darshan and Asia 2001, it promises to be a hell of party and well worth the 60euro the tickets currently sell for! And the line-up isn´t even complete yet, so expect more goodies to come. The festival will also have a Crossover-floor (with line-up TBA), and a chill-out area (with first name Biosphere presented), and except from this will have a cinema, lectures, restaurant area and a whiskey-bar (yummie!). If you don´t want to hang around the festival for 6 days in a row, the organisers offer other alternatives in areas close by; for an extra fee you can go visit waterfalls, caves, go mountain biking, bungyjumping(!), and play around with electricity in the Nicolai Tesla museum. It´s nice to have something more to look forward to and make it a proper vacation instead of hours and hours of drinking and dancing (which of course also is the shit!). So I hope to see some of you there!
