Schofield - Chill DJ Set @ Rainbow Serpent 2012

Time for me to share another chill DJ Set, this one recorded @ Rainbow Serpent festival, which took place outside Melbourne, Australia, end of January. The guy behind it is Ross Veenstra, a local from Melbourne. This 2 hour journey is beautifully crafted, and music from all sorts of chilled genres appear, such as pure ambient, psy-chill and more dubby, ethnic beats. The passages are cleverly done and Ross manages to keep it all together, eager to tell us his story in tones. Thanks a lot, mate. Listen, and float away!

According to Schofield he has been a lover of music since he first discovered that he had holes in the side of his head. He likes his music in many variations including dub, ambient, downtempo, electro-acoustic, psychedelic chill, wobbly breaks, experimental, electro-folk, modern classical, field recordings, and glitch. His inspiration comes from life: "the serenity of an empty field as the sun rises, the lure and promise of the open road, waves lapping lazily against a sandy beach, back yard bbq’s, urban landscapes", and all those things he attempts to weave into his sets.

Krusseldorf - Deep into the Bowl

I´m wishing you all a very chilled-out Sunday with this magical music by Krusseldorf. If you have a slight hangover, as I do (damn you, beer, every time!) this might be the best recipe to cure it :) Oh the video is also very nicely made, and sets the perfect mood.

Krusseldorf is Simon Heath, born in Stockholm, Sweden 1977. He started his musical adventures by learning how to play the piano, but eventually wanted to create music on his own, and so he started fiddling around with an Amiga. During the years he has released a lot of different form of music under different guises, like black ambient/noise under the name Atrium Carceri and 8 albums of classical music as Za Frûmi. This song, Deep into the Bowl, appears on his latest album From Soil to Space, released Oct, 2011 on Aleph Zero Records. Other releases include Bohemian Groove from 2010 (Beats N Pieces), and Smokers Lounge from 2007 (Sofa Beats/Iboga).

Champa

Champa is an psy-artist from London, UK until now most famous for his dj-sets under the name DJ Prozak, and also for organizing the monthly Cohesion-parties. He is due to release an EP on Neurobiotic Records called Upxare EP in late March/early April. The sound is quite melodic, but still very pounding and psychedelic, and will surely be appreciated by my dancing legs :) Looking forward to this release

He has also a song on the forthcoming Goa X Vol.11 Compilation due for release late in April 2012 in YSE. Planned for 2012 are other releases on YSE as well as on GanjaTree, and also a few collaborations are coming up. His first Album will be released on Yellow Sunshine Explosion. "With over 17 years of experience playing globally, his full on infectious smile and high-energy performances drives the dance floors".

Braincell - Psychedelicious EP

So, hey. A new release from Braincell out on Free-Spirit. Surely, you cannot be disappointed if you like his style of deep, twisted, melodic psy with some goa-influences? Nope! On this 3-song EP he stays true to his vision and delivers some great new pumping music for the late evenings or early mornings. Take it away, Sam - - - oh wait, I mean Ralph.

Behind the name Braincell is Ralph Knobloch from Muri, Switzerland. He has so far released four albums, the latest one, Intelligent Beings, was released on Free-Spirit Rec. in 2010. He has also made music together with his friend Jay (Southwild) under the name Rastaliens. Last couple of years he has begun to produce psy leaning more towards a progressive sound under the name Solar Spectrum. So go listen to the music he has made under his different aliases. There are a lot of treasures to be found. Cheerios!

Flood - Oath to Order (guitar edit)

This is a really nice chilled song made by Daniel Elegy & Tom Irrsin from Italy. It reminds me quite a lot of the music of System 7, I guess because of the guitar floating around in the background.

Tom also makes music under the aliases Irrsin and Delicious Insects having had a few releases on Gliese 581C Records. In his own words "Music is my daily caffeine. I need to wake up, I need to fall asleep." So, just relax, enjoy and fall asleep.

Va - Psyberia Express

"With this CD you get a ticket for a train with it´s final destination
in the wonderful imaginary land of Psyberia."

This CD was released mid February, 2012, it contains 11 very psychedelic songs, and it´s super-good value for your money. And your not wasting your time with this one either! The label is called Unlimited Music and is based in Russia. It was started by Fungus Funk aka Sergio Prilepa as his way to support local and international acts by releasing music with a "cutting edge psychedelic sound". All the songs has a quite distinct sound and after a few listens, you learn to hear the differences between the different artists. The compilation is by far the best one I´ve heard for a couple of months, especially since it is very even, and there is no song that is really shit. The best songs are:

2. Asimillion - Timmy Jimmy Timmah - with a heavy base, and really weird intense lead in the beginning, but after a break complete with samples from South Park, it really breaks loose with a jumpy morphing lead

3. Whiptongue - Robotic Inc. - monotonic and minimal but with weird scifi-sounds and some crunchy sounds talking with each other; after awhile even more twisted psychedelic leads filling all sound-spectras, and with an intenese, playful ending with leads turning you inside out

6. Sorrowmurk - Ticket To Siberia  - electronic soundbursts leaving you no time to breathe, a high level of intensity in every part but also a pinch of melancholy in the melodies floating in and out. An electified, psychedelic haven with a somewhat funky edge to it

7. Dirty Saffi Vs Synthetic Chaos - Skulls And Bones - Bam! Right in the kisser! Crunchy, twisted psychedelic mayhem

8. Fungus Funk & Sorrowmurk - Number One - the tempo and many of the sounds and leads, the psychedelic flashes of noise, and the intense soundscape is flirting with a more dark psychedelic sound, whereas the singing children, and the sad pads fills the air with mystic and takes us deeper

Dust - Do Unhealthy Silly Things

Unfortunately, very little psytrance has been released so far this year. And from that pile, not many songs have stood out... This is one of the few, and I would without a doubt have it played on a dancefloor. It will probably be featured on my next mix soon recorded. For me it is a perfect night-timer, although it is more psychedelic than dark. I like the beat, the feel and the crazy sounds that are in synchro and communicating with each other. It has a nice flow, and there are no boring parts, lots of shit happening all the time, and all parts fits nicely together!  Take it away, mr Dust.

Dust is Andrea Lunghi from Florence, Italy. He has just released his debut-album entitled I Don´t Like Psychedelics on Looney Moon Records, where the above song is featured as well. He sees himself as having a particularly sarcastic attitude towards life art and relationships, in impeccable Florentine style a caricature of Florence's (Italy) perfect citizen. This combined with a very productive vibe has led him to compose music for six different projects in the past few years. Not forgetting countless collaborations with names like Comadust, Assault Junkies, Mindshuffle, Dust in Face, Foam and Molest.
