Dj Fada - A Journey Through Us

This is one of the chill-sets that was part of the Winter Solstice chill-event at di.fm. I had never heard of this DJ before, and was pleasantly surprised by this journey and the pleasure it gave me.

Dj Fada is Andrea Mendes from São Paulo/SP, Brazil. She got into the electronic music-scene when she started going to festivals in 2003. She is part of a collective project called Cymatic Lab, and also affiliated with Portuguese label Ajnavision records. She explains her mixing as seeking to create "a sonic journey with deep atmospheres and tribal rhythms with hypnotic sounds that elevate the state of consciousness, the Harmonic lines she use in her sets open doors to a world of dancing reflections and personal evolution".

Tetrasound - Acidic Molecules

Presenting a great new mix from Tetrasound, alias for polish-born Grzegorz Augustyn, now living in Bristol, UK. There´s a post about him already in June, and since then he has in my opinion improved his mixing to be more smooth. The music included in this mix is also more fitting for my taste. Only sad thing is that no playlist is included but at least the artists included are revealed: Hypnoise, Mental Broadcast, Mind Evolution, Poli, Spectra Sonics, Headroom, Zen Mechanics, Space Vision, Ital, Sonic Species, Ilai, Mechanimal, Yar Za. It includes a few of my personal favorites from 2012, so I highly recommend it.

Aphid Moon & Contineum - Cultivate

This is one of the tracks on Cultivate EP released on Aphid Records a couple of weeks ago. As usually from this label we are treated with some really hard twisted psychedelic music. It is a collaboration between Jules Hamer, (Aphid Moon) and Contineum which are Dj Miff and Razek, everyone based in London, UK. Aphid Moon released his first album on Dragonfly already in 2003. Contineum started out as a solo project in 2008 by dj Miff, whilst Razek joined in 2011. They otherwise release their stuff on Mutagen and Maharetta records.

Onkel Dunkel - Booty & The Beat

Went to hear Onkel Dunkel this weekend. Hadn´t listened to his album that much but I had it on repeat the whole day. Then he kicked ass and I did some serious dancing for once, in a very very long time. Me was happy. So I figured I had to post something about him.

Onkel Dunkel is from Aarhus in Denmark. He is also one part of the group Grapes of Wrath. "The goal is hopefully with music as a medium to let people listening be able to go into a state that is normally not possible to reach in our noisy environments." He is part of the famous label Parvati Records, and his next live-gig will be in Brazil in the end of December.

Iacchus - Together As One

This album is super-nice and I have been listening to it repeatedly for a couple of weeks. It is just one of those pieces of music that you are so grateful that you stumbled across, almost by "accident", and that you feel gives you so much positive energies. Music can be so beautiful sometimes and really speak to your soul. This is an excellent example

This album was originally released by Timewave Records in February, 2011 but is now available for free download through Ektoplazm here. Behind the name Iacchus is Daniel Hickman, and all the music to this, his 2nd album was produced and recorded by him at The Pond Studio, London. He since then released another album beginning of 2012 available digitally through Amazon just a few bucks. Enjoy!

Braindrop - Groovy Burners Pt.2

Here is a new awesome psychedelic mix to light up those dark depressing autumn days. It is filled with crunchy, groovy, tweaked up psy-trance with artists appearing such as E.V.P., Scorb and Electrypnose. Too bad this mix only lasts for 59 minutes, I would have a loved another hour of this stuff :)

The man behind the project Braindrop is Sumith Suresh, is a trance- music producer from India. Since his debut in 2005 he has extensively performed throughout India, Europe, Middle East and South East Asia at various clubs and festivals. His skills has allowed him to perform alongside the likes of Juno Reactor, Atmos, Highlight Tribe, D-Nox, Sensient. In the past few years he has released music on several compilations on various labels. His style is a blend of futuristic rhythms with an organic touch, and also since 2009 he runs the label Occulta Records, dedicated to push the more slower and progressive side of psychedelic trance.

He is currently preparing his debut album due to release in 2012.

VA - Looney Boom

This is a new compilation released last month by the label Looney Moon records, which is based in Turin, Italy. One of the thoughts behind this label is to promote new Italian artists. Looney Moon has quickly sailed up to be one of this year´s favorite-labels releasing funky, crunchy and psychedelic music. Also, one of the label-owners, dj Phobos presented one of the best DJ-sets at this year´s edition of Lost Theory-festival in Croatia at the end of summer. So, there is really no surprise that also this compilation caught my interest and takes the listener on a very nice musical journey.

Except for the above track, my favorites are: 1. Kabayun - Lets Gets Nuts, 2. Southwild - Shantishanti, 6. R2 - Can Get Messy, 9. Mole - Stereo Manifesto. However the whole compilation is very listenable, and you should definitely check it out!

Southwild - Synthology

This album was released in July this year and is a hell of a ride. The label is Wildthings Records from UK, and if you like the kind of music they release - twisted crunchy rolling psy- then you are really in for a treat, cause this cd contains 10 tracks full of the stuff!

Favourite tracks are:

4. Bonnielicious - very chewy and straightforward with those intense noisy sounds
5. Cloud Control - more rhytmic and tweaked with weird vocalic sounds but still intense and noisy
7. Bleeps N´Bubbles - tweaked and crunched complete with Bleeps N´ Bubbles (listen above)
9. Alien Sex - a bit darker, and chewier, crazier but at the same time, more refined
10. Brain Tentacles - Robots are speaking and so are the aliens and the goblins. Quite rhythmic

Laatoka - Metamorph

This forest-psy song is part of the compilation How The Moon Was Made released by Ukrainian label Space Baby Records in June. It is a very powerful rolling track, and stood out a lot even though it is a high-quality cd with much good music. Manju, Dohm and Shiva3 are other artists who have contributed with great tracks .Unfortunately I haven´t managed to find out who´s behind the name Laatoka, thus I have no info about this artist.

How The Moon Was Made is the 10th release from Space Baby Rec and the first cd released was the compilation Shamanisma from late 2008. Other cd:s that stick out are the chill-albums by Kyoto and the Shiva3-album called Space In The Woods. For more info:

John Logk - Sun & Moon

Here is a new chill-set that I recommend. It mainly contains downbeat-songs but there are some slower ones as well, however no floating ambient/drone stuff. The songs are very good though, and the mix manages to create a certain mood. It was mixed by John Logk from Athens, Greece, and he has two other mixes on his soundcloud, well worth checking out.

Tracklist:

02.Atlantis Concept - Hypnotic Machine

Dj Anders - Blue Hour Expressions

Great psy-mix by Dj Anders from Sweden - one of the label-djs for great Blue Hour Sounds :)

"For me the art of djing is a oppurtunity to express musical visions, through soundscapes we are creating in oneness, and through the rythms the dancefloor creates in togetherness. I prefer to play longer sets in the morning hours, almost at twilight, to continue the journey with the dancers who are still keeping going after the powerful night time dance. Together with the sun itself we can reach even higher than we ever imagined, together. My goal with my dj-sets is to deliver a journey which express my feelings of music, life, love, travel - inner and outer and together we can explore space and time in endless soundscapes in the powerful rythms of dance.."

Nebula Meltdown - Light Envelope

This great piece of melodic psy-trance is part of the compilation called Trimurti Moods out on Trimurti Records, compiled by Dj Unitone and Dj Zitron. Nebula Meltdown is Kristian Aro from Helsinki, Finland.

His interest for music started already as a child, when he listened to a lot of classical music and he played also the piano for several years. He got interested of electronic music when he was 12 years old, first listening to the Prodigy and similar, until he found out about goa- and psytrance in early 2000.Nebula started to spin the decks in 2002 and had his first psyparty gig in early 2003. After that he has arranged parties, been playing both live- and dj-gigs in many different countries.
He makes many different styles of psychedelic trance, from morning goa to nightpsy and UK-style full-on, ambient, chill-out and some hybrid tracks blending nightpsy madness and goa in the same soup, and even something between full-on and suomisaundi, too. He has devoted himself to music, constantly working and fine-tuning his music with careful precision. In 2009 he became a label-dj for famous Belgian Goa-Trance label Suntrip Records which also released his first song - Encrypted Illusion on the CD compilation from Suntrip Records, Temple of Chaos. At the moment he is busy working on his debut goatrance album and on Rye Smugglers - a fresh collaboration project with Tim Duster.

Spectrum Vision - Lost Space Device

Another great chill-release being available for free through Ektoplazm.com.

This album was originally released in 2008 on the Ukranian label Sentimony records, but now re-released in early July 2012. Lost Space Device consists of two Russians - Alexander and Ivan - living close to Moscow.  They describe their own music as "psychedelic down-tempo and ambient works distinguished by subtle ethnic themes with deep dimensions and beautiful melodic leads".

Personally I think it is a beautifully crafted album, very nice production and dreamy melodies mixed with ethnic voices and rhythmic instruments. You can find the whole album available for download here

Liquid Flow - Psyonic Storm

I rarely hear new-school Goa, "neogoa" that really gets to me in the way that it used to. A couple of years ago I was really into this kind of music, and I tried to get hold of pretty much everything that was released. My passion for trance-music hit a peak when the Goa-sound first came in early-mid nineties and I had really missed that sound and the structure of music ever since. However, nowadays I find the new goa-sound to be a bit boring, almost always sounding the same. But after hearing a few new tracks from Liquid Flow, I can say that he is an artist that for me brings something different to the table. At least there is a certain something that my ears and soul really like to experience. This track - Psyonic Storm - appears on a compilation called Space of Power, a double-CD released by a label called Global Sect Music, their first release by the look of it. Other famous neogoa-artists have made contributions; E-Mantra, Artifact303, Filteria, Goasia, some of them with multiple tracks. The other track by Liquid Flow - Chaotic, is also really good, but this track Psyonic Storm is without a doubt one of the best new school-Goa tracks released in awhile, and I urge you to check out the whole compilation if you have the possibility.

Tomislav, a.k.a Liquid Flow, if from Zagreb, Croatia and began his musical journey at the age of 12, playing the piano in elementary school. His teacher though him of great talent and offered him private lessons for free, but Tomislav was not interested in learning notes; but rather jam his own melodies on a synth. For the next 3 years he rarely played the piano, and wasn't planning to pursue this passion. But by accident at the age of 15 Liquid Flow discovered a game "Music 2000"; a simple sequencer made for the playstation. Amazed at the possibilities of making music using software, he quickly saved up for his first PC and soon discovered the world of computer music; experimenting with sounds, melodies and beats. Soon after, Tomislav visited his first trance party; hearing the sound of goa trance for the first time. At first, he only listened to goa, but over time he fell in love with the sound and started working on his own tracks. The Liquid Flow project was created in 2001 and during the first years there were a few releases, mostly on free digital labels, including a melodic track on the first SectionZ compilation. By 2006 the project took off and Liquid Flow joined Shivlink records; releasing a digital EP "Goa Terminal". Many releases followed, some of which include tracks on Shivlink, Cronomi records, etc. The work on the album started in 2006 and after 3 years in their making it Was released by Kagdila Records in October 2009.

Avalon - Avalon Summer DJ mix 2012

Avalon from Nano Records gives us a great mix with some summer-vibes, filled with nice melodic psytrance - crunchy style. It includes some unreleased Avalon-tracks and I guess a lot of goodies from Nano Records. The mixing is flawless on this 80-minutes journey into another world. If you have the possibility be sure to catch him at one of the summer´s many festivals. You won´t regret it. Enjoy!

Avalon is Leon Avalon from London, UK, who started Djing in 2003 and began music production in 2006. His first album release was “Reality Check” as part of the Reality Grid duo with EVP in 2007 on Wildthings records. Leon then decided to focus on his solo project Avalon, and he was then signed up by Nano records where he released his debut solo album "Distant Futures' in 2010. After the album release Avalon has been touring non-stop globally, and has played  festivals such as Boom , Ozora, Tribe, Kaballah, Universo Paralello, Easter Island Eclipse, Burning man, Indigo, Synthetic dreams, Glade (U.k), as well as some of the most popular club nights across Europe, Israel, Japan, U.S.A and Australia.

In 2011 Avalon teamed up with Tristan to form the project Killerwatts. which have just finished and released there debut Album 'Blow your mind' on Nano records. Shortly to follow this year is the Avalon Rmx album, and a 2nd solo project has just been formed by Avalon called Future Frequency. This project will focus on a more progressive style of trance, and first release is a track with Zen Mechanics on Sourcecode records later this year.

Cosmic Replicant – Supersensitive EP

This 4-track EP was released in april, 2012 by down-tempo producer Cosmic Replicant (real name Pavel), living in Kazan, Russia. That is pretty much everything we know about him. The label is called Pureuphoria Records and you can download the whole mini-album for free through Ektoplazm by following this LINK. First track Chromosphere is my absolute favorite, and although I had it in my playlist for awhile I must have missed it cause now I can´t stop listening to it. Absolutely my type of chill, with a very dreamy repetitive melody, nice rhythmic parties, and loads of different string-parts giving that cosmic spacy vibe, like you are flying in space in wonder. Track no.2 - Inner Fly follows in the same direction, although not as dreamy and spacey, but with more strings, a bit more focus on rhythms and a sort of 303-bassline going on in the background - still yummy though. No.3 then - Supersensitive - the title-track gives me an old school trancy ambient feel, and is more experimental with a nice arpeggiator filtrating through space, vibrating strings, noisy sounds and distorted voices in the background. Last track Space Creator is a more traditional psy-chill track with heavy 4/4 bassdrum, a sort of goa-bassline, psychedelics sounds, floating melodies, loads of focus on the beats but still with filtrating strings giving you that spacey feel. All in all a super-nice EP and that it is free for download does not really make it worse :) Say thanks to the artist!

Elysium - Jupiter

Great new track from danish artist Kristian Thinning Andersen (here working under his oldschooler alias Elysium). It is part of a very beautiful chill-out compilation called Solar System which recently was released for free. You can find it through Ektoplazm available for download HERE. The style of the track Jupiter is hard to describe since its very trancy, flirts with goa, but is still techno-ish. You could probably not play it in a chill although I might try :D

Cosmo Tech - Solar Cycle EP

Cosmotech (or Cosmo Tech I still haven´t figured out which spelling is the correct one) is Yuri Valencio from Brasilia, Brasil. Yuri is a musician since turning 6, when he started to play classical piano and drums. When playing live, Yuri usually plays e-drum Roland SPD-20 and synths, adding some improvisations on the tracks. Ever since hearing him for the first time I have though he has created a very interested and personal sound, I have followed his music ever since. This 4-track EP (that was released by Catalyst records in May) contains more conventional psy-trance but you can still hear Yuri using special sounds and ideas when creating his music, that makes his work stand out and make it more personal. This is especially true in track nr.3, Innerspace Traveller which currently is my favourite with really crunchy metallic sounds. Another favourite of mine is nr.2 The Present Day with a nice goa etch to it.

Go listen to the snippets here and then buy the damn thing ;) http://www.beatport.com/release/solar-cycle/904935

"The sun is our primary source of energy. Its power is beyond our understanding yet it is a crucial part of our lives and evolution. It affects everything from space weather to climate on earth. This EP was created to cause disruptions in acoustic weather and mental frequencies."

Tetrasound - Live @ 8th Toadstool B-Party

Here is a very nice mix delivered by Tetrasound from Bristol, UK. It is a 90 minutes mix balancing between full-on and psychedelic trance, very driven and catchy, but not cheesy in any way. The mixing is not flawless, sometimes it takes a while before the exact beat is found, but this DJ still manages to keep a nice flow to it, and you don´t mind that much cause the tracks fit very well together and the set is built very nicely. I would love to see a track-list, cause quite a few of the pieces I wouldn´t mind playing myself, but alas there isn´t one.

Lucas - Mind Of Its Own

We´re gonna have a good time - we´re gonna have a party"

Boom! New track by TIP label-DJ Lucas appearing on a new compilation from Hadra - Resistrance - a double-cd filled with lots of goodies. The track - Mind Of Its Own - follows the footsteps from previous Lucas releases, in being very psychedelic - in a UK style of way (think Tristan, Avalon, etc.) but at the same keeping the melodic perspective and incorporating a touch of oldschool Goa sound. I always liked this kind of music, actually its close to my favourite sound, thus this track I will proudly play for the dancing crowd this summer; again and again and again...

Lucas is Lucas O´Brien from London, UK, having been involved in the dance music-scene since the early nineties playing  techno at clubs such as The End, Heaven, Club UK and Fabric. He is now also known as a psytrance dj representing Raja Ram's label TIP records with his unique UK sound touring as far afield as Europe, Russia, US, South America, the Middle East, Asia and Australia (last year he played in over 20 different countries).
As a producer, Lucas has collaborated with many top artists such as Eat Static, Raja Ram, Hallucinogen, Dickster, Tristan, Laughing Buddha, Aphid Moon, Prometheus and Avalon.  His debut album, 'God Save The Machine', was released on TIP records in 2005 and fused new school production with TIP's classic goa sound. Lucas' second album, also on TIP,  titled 'Tales Of Heads', was released in 2010.
He has now started working on a new techno project with Merv Pepler of Eat Static called 'Major Clanger' and continuing work on his solo project which he will be performing live in 2012 as 'Lucas Live'. Also he has a project, 'Sybarite' with Ric Featherstone who have track releases forthcoming on Nano and Moonloop records.

RE: Transition Festival 2012

This festival took place in sunny Spain, in the southern part close to Seville beginning of April (5-9th). I wrote an earlier post about it if you like to read more background information. This will be a review, strictly from my personal point of view... And what a great experience I had, it is without a doubt one of the best festivals I have attended. So what made it so great?

First of all, the overall mood of the festival was perfect. Everyone was happy, friendly and enjoying themselves in a laid-back way. I got the feeling that most people were there to hang out with their friends, relax and dance to really good music.
Second of all, the spot for the festival was beautiful. Really tall pine-trees surrounded the whole festival area, and made a nice backdrop to the main-stage. You really felt in awe of nature when you looked around on the dance-floor seeing all these majestic trees everywhere. Also the decoration really fit the bill, not to much but instead, it felt as a compliment to the beautiful surroundings, just making a bit more psychedelic ;)
The musical program felt really thought through from the organizers. I felt that all the music was playing at the exact right time considering the time of day. Also it was good that the chill-out played dance-music the first night/morning so that everyone could start stretch their legs. Otherwise I kind of forget about the chill, it overall felt a bit left to its on devices. Maybe something to think about until next year. My absolute favourite-artist was Lucas from Tip World playing the perfect mix of crunchy, minimal psychedelic trance. His set really put everyone on the dance-floor in a crazed frenzy :). Other acts I really enjoyed were Tantrix, Hypnoise, Hypnocoustics and Aphid Moon. The sound-system was really good, not playing to loud, but enough that you could feel the music in your body, and the sound was really clear. Usually you don´t need to crank it up playing everything on red as long as you have a high-quality sound system ;). I was mostly doing my dancing day-time so night-time I cannot really review the music during the nights. Only thing was the last evening/night when I heard some pretty shitty music from my tent. Overall the day-time bookings seemed to have received more focus than night-time. I hope the organizers will think about this until next year and put some more interesting acts also during the nights.

Also I would wish for more food-stalls presenting more varied dishes and maybe a few toilets more, and the showers being open a bit earlier (around noon is a bit late for us early birds). Other than this I am 100% happy with the festival, and the great weather (yay for dancing in t-shirt in early april) really put the hammer on the nail. It ends up on the top-3 of my festivals and I hope to return again next year (although having the festival even earlier (end of March) might stop me, cause the nights were pretty damn cold and will probably be even colder). Being forced from one´s tent in the early cold morning to take a piss isn´t that romantic ;). Anyway, big ups to the organizers for doing a fantastic job, loads of hugs to everyone attending, and a big thanks and all my love for everyone in my camp making this festival into that great experience that it was. I didn´t want to go home :)

Ekoplex - Discovering The Ancient

Discovering The Ancient is the 3rd studio album from Ekoplex to date, and it was released end of January, 2012 on Omnitropic which is Ektoplazm´s downtempo label and thus is available for free through the latter. It is a great downtempo album with lots of "ethnic" and tribal influences, which the artists mixes with nice beats and flowing basslines. All the tracks blend really well together, there is no pause in between, the whole CD flows so the best listening experience is to just listen to the whole album from beginning to end, in the background or more focused. But I advise you to give it some of your time because it is well worth the listen. It is quite difficult to pick any favourites because there is an overall quality to it all, but I really like Follow The Music - because of its dreamy state, nice flowing melodies and nice trancy atmosphere; Aya - sets a bit of a quicker space and has some really nice rhythmic parts, wobbly voices and a nice level of intensity. The final track End of the Cycle, Beginning of... is a 20 minutes (!) piece that ties it all together containing a bit of everything, influenced by previous music on the album and it just a great finale to a great journey!

You can go stream or download the album HERE

Ekoplex is Ray Vincent, a  psychedelic trance and downtempo producer from Toronto, Canada.  Over the years, he has developed a visually engaging live setup that features a MIDI-controlled guitar, keyboards, and other equipment, ensuring that every performance has an original touch. Ekoplex has been thrilling dance floors across North America over the last decade, playing at many major festivals and indoor events. Some highlights include the Eclipse Festival in 2006 and 2008, Gaian Mind in 2008, Harvest 2008, and the Soma 2008 New Year’s event. Ekoplex released his first full-length album, Journey Of The Turtle,  in August of 2008.

Hypnocoustics - Ashtamangala

This is a great new track by Hypnocoustics, the title-track on a new EP which was recently released on BMSS records. It is melodic psytrance/full-on at its best, with great atmosphere, powerful melodies and a nice drive that just makes you want to dance around forever. Go listen now, and then buy it FFS. Support the artists :)

Hypnocoustics is a Psychedelic Trance project between Joe Studt and Benjamin Wood, two producers from London developing their sound for the last two years. They describe it as "a deep and immersive morning sound packed with hypnotic soundscapes, mesmeric textures, driving percussion and intricate musical arrangements". Hypnocoustics’ first EP release, Buddha Nature (March 2011 BMSS Records) topped the Juno Downloads ‘Most Popular Psytrance Album’ category for 2 weeks and they have several releases planned for 2012.

Enuui - Last Awake

This very nice ambient/chill-set was recorded by Enui about a month ago. Little is known about this entity other than he resides in the UK. This mix is not about to slap you in your face nor will it jump and shout to get your attention; it is about the small subtle things in life; slowly evolving and flowing around in space. It is about being still and listening outwards and inwards, giving your soul some well-deserved attention and relaxation...

So you want a new psy-mix, eyy? Something for the Saturday evening for the pre-party? Dancing around with your girl and 99 bottles of beer on the wall... I got one for you. Filled with nice minimal, funky, energetic crunchy psy. And with some smooth intense mixing. Intrigued? I bet you are. Just sign here, here and here. Oh, never mind. Just press play on tape. He roots his sound in the alternative-rock-scene and he is also influenced by acts of different other scenes like Moby, Peter Kruder or Air. Tara Putra - Channel Dub Sumatra

This is a really nice chilly dub track that appears on Tara Putras new album In Dubland recently released on Russian label Gliese581 C Records. It has a warm vibe to it and feels like the perfect background to a barbecue with friends in the park and lots of beers getting all tipsy and stuff :) The complete album is free for download and can be found HERE

Tara Putra is Marcus Straczkowski from Germany and this project began as a three-headed Psytrance-Liveact launched in the mid-'90s, and their first single was released in 2001 called "Dua Orang". This EP was the first to present the project´s future development with Psybient and Psydub - Creating space and psychedelic atmospheres in a dubby ambience.

Ajja - Tulpa

This album was released on Swizz label Peak Records in March 2012 and the style can be described as a mixture of mid-dark and forest-trance. All the tracks seems to follow a specific recipe in that many of the sounds and leads used are somewhat similar but not the same. And at the same time it is nice to hear artists that invent their own style and then sticks to it without becoming boring. Ajja is a very talented musician/producer and all the sounds are polished and really fits the bill. His music is filled with weird twirls, spirals, twists and turns, and really have a crunchy sci-fi edge to it!  This album really takes the listener on an interesting journey and I advise people that like similar styles to give it a try. I don´t think you will be disappointed. Favourite-tracks are Bazinga, iFriend, Sidewinder (Flying Mix) and Bayaya!

AJJA S.F. LEU splits his time between being a musician/producer/dj, Peak Records label manager, graphic artist and a tattoo artist. He was born in London in 1975, and while growing up with a world-renowned family of tattoo-artists and travellers, he started to play guitar when he was nine years old, at first really into rock’n’roll and funk. By his mid-teens, he had composed, produced and recorded over one hundred original songs and he performed with a number of live bands in different countries and continued to create music and release rock albums for another decade.

At the end of the nineties, his interest gradually shifted towards electronic music, and in 2002, AJJA and musician friends Master Margherita, Dymons and Flooting Grooves created The Peaking Goddess Collective, a chill & psytrance band that fuses live instruments and digital technology. After performing in many parties and festivals and releasing tracks on many compilations, their debut album “Organika” was released on Peak Records in August 2007. In the summer of 2003, AJJA, in collaboration with his partner, visual artist Tanina Munchkina and musicians Dj Gaspard and Master Margherita, founded the psychedelic trance label Peak Records. The same year saw the birth of Yab Yum, the fully digital project shared by AJJA and Dj Gaspard. In 2005, AJJA started a solo project under his own name and he released his first solo night-time track in 2007, followed later the same year by his debut album “PSYCHOGENICA”, on the Irish label Syncronize Records.

DeeperNET - Another Level

When roaming through the net the other day I stumbled across this excellent chill-song by DeeperNET. I guess you can call it psy-chill, but it also has some trancier elements and very nice melodies. The artist himself calls it a "100% original down-tempo psychedelic electronic and ambient music project". I will definitely have it on repeat for awhile!

DeeperNET is Andrew Miles, originally from Chicago, but now living in Portland, United States. He is currently working on a new chill-album :)

Mote. - Dust Particle

"So too, in the macroscopic universe, the human is an
infinitely small speck, a particle, a mote".

Mote. is Darren Smith from Australia, perhaps more known as Reality Pixie, his alias since 6 years when producing psytrance. This 3 track ep presents his chilly approach to music and it is free for download through ektoplazm: DOWNLOAD

First out is the title track Dust Particle which is very mellow and tentative, using instruments sounding like a classical violin and clave, on a surface of bubbly sounds and spacey floating pads. The second song Widachi has a more sad touch, with a lead reminding me of a music-box and sounds that are both glitchy and vibrating. The song is rooted thanks to a dubby baseline and some tasty broken beats. Final song is Life Is large, which starts out very dreamy with a nice high pitched melody floating around in space. After awhile the song changes direction, and in comes a nice piano, and at the same time it all becomes playful with broken beats and nice changes in rhythms with a glitchy touch. Go have a taste, you won´t regret it!

And with with the compilation spanning so many different genres, from dark to minimal, from full-on psy to finish freestyle, there is sure something for the taste of everyone. Oh and did I mention it was free ;)

Yar Zaa

Yar zaa is Jose Luis Yarza from Madrid, Spain. I first got to know of his music when I heard Laberinto EP, which was released on Antu Records about half a year ago. I really like his style of psytrance -it´s pretty crunchy and twisted, not too dark or hard, but has a nice flow to it. This here song is his newest one, soon to be released on VA - Digital Frequenz.

Jose Luis Yarza started out listening to music like rock and punk-rock, but it was while he was studying in Berlin in 1998, that he began his life around electronic music in the techno party squats of that city. When he came back to Madrid in 2005 he met some groups involved in the electronic music scene, and starting to DJ seemed like the natural thing to do. He quickly became famous for his powerful sets, thus in 2006 he was invited by Tribe of frog to join the legendary fluo crew, at the same time playing a lot of the major parties on Spain. A year later, Yarza started to experiment in a home studio and create his own style of psytrance under the name of Yar zaa. Since then he has been playing on dance floors around Spain. (Al-Andalus festival, Transition Festival) and also in Portugal and Thailand (Shiva moon Party). Yar zaa has released some tracks and Eps on labels like: Antu recs, Planet Ben records, Zero Gravity records, Trance lab records, and Inner lotus records.

Schofield - Chill DJ Set @ Rainbow Serpent 2012

Time for me to share another chill DJ Set, this one recorded @ Rainbow Serpent festival, which took place outside Melbourne, Australia, end of January. The guy behind it is Ross Veenstra, a local from Melbourne. This 2 hour journey is beautifully crafted, and music from all sorts of chilled genres appear, such as pure ambient, psy-chill and more dubby, ethnic beats. The passages are cleverly done and Ross manages to keep it all together, eager to tell us his story in tones. Thanks a lot, mate. Listen, and float away!

He likes his music in many variations including dub, ambient, downtempo, electro-acoustic, psychedelic chill, wobbly breaks, experimental, electro-folk, modern classical, field recordings, and glitch. His inspiration comes from life: "the serenity of an empty field as the sun rises, the lure and promise of the open road, waves lapping lazily against a sandy beach, back yard bbq’s, urban landscapes", and all those things he attempts to weave into his sets.

Krusseldorf - Deep into the Bowl

I´m wishing you all a very chilled-out Sunday with this magical music by Krusseldorf. If you have a slight hangover, as I do (damn you, beer, every time!) this might be the best recipe to cure it :) Oh the video is also very nicely made, and sets the perfect mood.

Krusseldorf is Simon Heath, born in Stockholm, Sweden 1977. He started his musical adventures by learning how to play the piano, but eventually wanted to create music on his own, and so he started fiddling around with an Amiga. During the years he has released a lot of different form of music under different guises, like black ambient/noise under the name Atrium Carceri and 8 albums of classical music as Za Frûmi. This song, Deep into the Bowl, appears on his latest album From Soil to Space, released Oct, 2011 on Aleph Zero Records. Other releases include Bohemian Groove from 2010 (Beats N Pieces), and Smokers Lounge from 2007 (Sofa Beats/Iboga).

Flood - Oath to Order (guitar edit)

This is a really nice chilled song made by Daniel Elegy & Tom Irrsin from Italy. It reminds me quite a lot of the music of System 7, I guess because of the guitar floating around in the background.

Tom also makes music under the aliases Irrsin and Delicious Insects having had a few releases on Gliese 581C Records. In his own words "Music is my daily caffeine. I need to wake up, I need to fall asleep." So, just relax, enjoy and fall asleep.

Va - Psyberia Express

"With this CD you get a ticket for a train with it´s final destination
in the wonderful imaginary land of Psyberia."

This CD was released mid February, 2012, it contains 11 very psychedelic songs, and it´s super-good value for your money. And your not wasting your time with this one either! The label is called Unlimited Music and is based in Russia. It was started by Fungus Funk aka Sergio Prilepa as his way to support local and international acts by releasing music with a "cutting edge psychedelic sound". All the songs has a quite distinct sound and after a few listens, you learn to hear the differences between the different artists. The compilation is by far the best one I´ve heard for a couple of months, especially since it is very even, and there is no song that is really shit. The best songs are:

2. Asimillion - Timmy Jimmy Timmah - with a heavy base, and really weird intense lead in the beginning, but after a break complete with samples from South Park, it really breaks loose with a jumpy morphing lead

3. Whiptongue - Robotic Inc. - monotonic and minimal but with weird scifi-sounds and some crunchy sounds talking with each other; after awhile even more twisted psychedelic leads filling all sound-spectras, and with an intenese, playful ending with leads turning you inside out

6. Sorrowmurk - Ticket To Siberia  - electronic soundbursts leaving you no time to breathe, a high level of intensity in every part but also a pinch of melancholy in the melodies floating in and out. An electified, psychedelic haven with a somewhat funky edge to it

7. Dirty Saffi Vs Synthetic Chaos - Skulls And Bones - Bam! Right in the kisser! Crunchy, twisted psychedelic mayhem

8. Fungus Funk & Sorrowmurk - Number One - the tempo and many of the sounds and leads, the psychedelic flashes of noise, and the intense soundscape is flirting with a more dark psychedelic sound, whereas the singing children, and the sad pads fills the air with mystic and takes us deeper
